Philippe-Aubert Gauthier

Artiste sonore, P.-A. Depuis 1998, P.-A. On peut lire ses écrits dans Inter Arts Actuels, Musicworks, Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Acta Acustica united with Acustica et Leonardo, The Journal of the International Society for the Arts, Sciences and Technologies.

New Noizefer CWU album: Pantonalité Part A

The new noise/computer music/pop Noizefer CWU album ''Pantonalité'' is out! At the heart of the project lies an artistic reinterpretation of the sound effect synthesizers used in video games. Télétoxie is the human-scale version of synthetical war and urban soundcapes. The sound track will be based on hacked synthesis engines combined with a generative composition and spatialization patches.

Parts of the project will be made in our home studio and at a temporary workplace for the final installation asembly. More information below.

=================================/
Pièce de Philippe-Aubert Gauthier
/================================

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 247px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Bk6Y-VkAyNs/SRb6E6xFBqI/AAAAAAAAAI0/TiKx2y3gWEY/s320/chicoutimi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266671776657901218" />

Noïzefer CWU :: Performance :: Knock on Wood residency

Le comité d'évaluation de thèse regroupe Alain Berry, Yann Pasco (Groupe d'Acoustique de l'Université de Sherbrooke, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music, Media and Technology), Oliver Warusfel (IRCAM) and Emmanuel Friot (LMA, Marseille).

=====================================================================

Hello,

You are invited to the defence of Philippe-Aubert Gauthier for Ph.D. in mechanical engineering on September 11th, 2007, 9:00 (University of Sherbrooke, A1-228, Faculty of education). The thesis concerns the adaptive synthesis of sound fields.

The defence will be presented in French and the period of questions will possibly involve English and French. The thesis relates to the reproduction of sound fields by "wave field synthesis" (WFS) and compensation of the reproduction errors by "adaptive wave field synthesis" (AWFS), that is the originality of the thesis.

A part of the presentation will be dedicated to the techniques of sound spatialization and another part presents the limits of WFS along with theoretical and practical examples of AWFS. The presentation touches various disciplines: physical acoustics, room acoustics, digital signal processing, applied electroacoustics, etc. Efforts will be made to preserve a general description and thus contribute to the popularization of the work. The presentation is thus opened to a larger audience.

The evaluation committee gathers: Alain Berry, Yann Pasco (Group of Acoustics of the University of Sherbrooke, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music, Media and
Technology), Oliver Warusfel (IRCAM) and Emmanuel Friot (LMA, Marseille). The defence will be "videoconferenced" between Marseille (LMA) and Sherbrooke. After the defence, an aperitif (with some food) will be offered in the GAUS laboratory. A demonstration of the system will also be presented in the laboratory (C1-2039).

For more information: philippe_aubert_gauthier@hotmail.com

To obtain a map of the campus with the indication of the place of defence: pag-sound.blogspot.com

Pure-Data Convention 2007 :: Montréal :: "Auditory Tactics"

From http://convention.puredata.org/

The PureData Convention '07 will bring together artists, developers and theoreticians who develop, use and reflect on PureData. Using voice sounds, this project is dedicated to the place of the voice, the mediated voice, on public spaces, private and public aural spheres.

See : auditorytactics.blogspot.com

Here is the installation (Concordia University, Québec, Canada) ...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_Bk6Y-VkAyNs/RvCH5NavDNI/AAAAAAAAADQ/FQ5gTFWbCkE/s320/Blogue_1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5111734993989602514" />

Adaptive wave field synthesis

Next week, my thesis on adaptive wave field synthesis for sound field reproduction will be finished. St-Pierre and P.-A. Gauthier performed at the Horace Art Galery (Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada) as Noïzefer CWU. The performance was "Au sujet de la naissance des affects bruyants". Here are some pictures and description.

Here are some general views of the event ...

The two dark objects are loudspeakers which were projecting the sound track: a progressive accumulation of 25000 sine waves towards pure noise. I was trying to read a text while Tanya was playing a little black piano. Two subwoofers were also adding low frequency drones to the other noise sound tracks.

The visual display, including the costumes, was a creation of T. St-Pierre and the sound track was a composition of P.-A. Gauthier.

The third picture shows some members of the audience, where you can see some of our friends and other performers, you can see Daniel Acosta (Argentina) on the left and Sébastien Pesot (Québec) on the left but in the back.

As you can see on the last picture, one of the central visual element was a red mixture, under a red light, in a plastic bag over a metal pipe. The metal pipe was used as a wave guide connected to one of the subwoofers so that the bag was strongly vibrating: then making noise and giving the mixture a "boiling" look.
