More sound compositions, from 1998 to 2005.
Philippe-Aubert Gauthier is a junior mechanical engineer, M.Sc., Ph.D. in acoustics and sound artist. His work is at the crossroads of arts, sciences and technology. Emerging or obsolete technologies are revisited in order to produce installations or performances that critically engage these apparatuses and related cultures.

Noïzefer CWU will perform at "Atelier Silex", Trois-Rivières, Québec, Canada on November 24th. It should be free!
Noïzefer CWU performance for Art Nomade
We are back from Chicoutimi were Noïzefer CWU given a new performance within the performance festival "Art Nomade". The place, the ambiance and the event were great, a total sucess. Three nights of performance by: Jan Swindzinkski, Terrance Houle, Sara Létourneau, Ryan Sims, Stéphane Bouliane, Michelle Rhéaume, Paul Hurley, Irma Optimist, Francis Arguin, Arti Grabowski and Noïzefer. We performed on November 2nd at the old "pulperie de Chicoutimi" (Chicoutimi, Québec, Canada).
Here is some pictures.
Look for our next performance in Trois-Rivières.

Ph.D. thesis defence of Philippe-Aubert Gauthier
English follows, sorry for cross posting.
=======================================================================
Bonjour,
Le comité d'évaluation de thèse regroupe Alain Berry, Yann Pasco (Groupe d'Acoustique de l'Université de Sherbrooke, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music, Media and Technology), Oliver Warusfel (IRCAM) and Emmanuel Friot (LMA, Marseille).

Hello,
You are invited to the defence of Philippe-Aubert Gauthier for Ph.D. in mechanical engineering on September 11th, 2007, 9:00 (University of Sherbrooke, A1-228, Faculty of education). The thesis concerns the adaptive synthesis of sound fields.
The defence will be presented in French and the period of questions will possibly involve English and French. The thesis relates to the reproduction of sound fields by "wave field synthesis" (WFS) and compensation of the reproduction errors by "adaptive wave field synthesis" (AWFS), that is the originality of the thesis.
A part of the presentation will be dedicated to the techniques of sound spatialization and another part presents the limits of WFS along with theoretical and practical examples of AWFS. The presentation touches various disciplines: physical acoustics, room acoustics, digital signal processing, applied electroacoustics, etc. Efforts will be made to preserve a general description and thus contribute to the popularization of the work. The presentation is thus opened to a larger audience.
The evaluation committee gathers: Alain Berry, Yann Pasco (Group of Acoustics of the University of Sherbrooke, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music, Media and
Technology), Oliver Warusfel (IRCAM) and Emmanuel Friot (LMA, Marseille). The defence will be "videoconferenced" between Marseille (LMA) and Sherbrooke. After the defence, an aperitif (with some food) will be offered in the GAUS laboratory. A demonstration of the system will also be presented in the laboratory (C1-2039).

Pure-Data Convention 2007 :: Montréal :: "Auditory Tactics"
From http://convention.puredata.org/
The PureData Convention '07 will bring together artists, developers and theoreticians who develop, use and reflect on PureData. It will acknowledge the broad range of artistic disciplines that make use of the software and will address questions of openness and accessibility. It will provide a theoretical context for the understanding of media art practices that engage in the aesthetics and politics of Free Open Source Software Culture.
The artists and researchers Philippe Pasquier and Philippe-Aubert Gauthier were invited in 2006 for a residency at Vidéographe to work on the creation of a sound installation for the PD Convention. The residency will start on June 21th until the show opening on August 21th, Concordia University.
"Auditory tactics" (preliminary title) will expose a public space to acoustic beams using compact loudspeaker arrays. PD will be used to control the system, steer the beams and create an interactive spatial sound composition with the public, the space and the system. Using voice sounds, this project is dedicated to the place of the voice, the mediated voice, on public spaces, private and public aural spheres.
