Sound performance for "Homemade sound systems" // Suoni per il popolo

On June 10th 2013, Suoni Per Il Popolo organized a special sound performance evening: "Homemade sound systems". For this night, the artists, Stéphane Claude, Hélène Prévost and myself only used custom sound systems that were part of the performance. For this special and exciting night, I used my 16-channel beamformer orginally built in 2007 for an installation. For "Homemade sound system" at Eastern Bloc I used the beamformer to acoustically scan the room and interact with reflecting surface based on delay-and-sum beamforming. Pictures of the setup in the afternoon below.

Here is a link to a video excerpt, unfortunately, we don't get the spatial effect:
https://vimeo.com/69804156

Thanks to Peter, Suoni, Eastern Bloc, Stéphane Claude, Hélène Prévost, Josée, Tanya St-Pierre and friends!

Philippe-Aubert Gauthier acknowledges the support of SODEC ("Artistes en arts visuel - Production d'oeuvres d'art").

Sound performance at Sala Rossa // "Exceptions" by curator Eric Mattson

On April 26th 2013, the first night of "Exceptions" by Eric Mattson was presented at Sala Rossa. I played along Alexandre St-Onge and Raydmond Gervais. Pictures of my performance below. It was based on a live experiment based my recent sound installation "Motifs et moirés`that relies on digital loudspeakers and spatially-dependent psychoacoustics masking. Listeners must move arround the loudspeakers the hear the missing voice.

Thanks to Eric Mattson, Alexandre St-Onge, Raydmond Gervais, Sala Rossa, Tanya St-Pierre, Manon Labrecque, Oboro and Canada Art Council.

New sound track presented at Eastman, Correspondances d'Eastman

A new generative sound track by P.-A. Gauthier will be presented along an installation by Geneviève Chevalier: "Les moqueuses polyglottes". St-Édouard Church, Main Street, Eastman, Québec, Canada. Opening on August 7th at 18:00. The installation will be presented from August 7th to 10th.

This belong to the literary event "Les correspondances d'Eastman". Chevalier is supported by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

******************************************************************

The site-specific installation by Geneviève Chevalier presented during the 2008 edition of Les Correspondances d'Eastman is part sculpture and part sound. Two flesh-like bells hang from the balcony in the rear part of the Saint-Edouard church in Eastman, Quebec. The sculptures appear to be in a conversation: in fact, a soundtrack made up of poetry and fiction read by Fredric Gary Comeau, Tristan Malavoy and Lili Maxime and sounds mimicking the bell's melody inside a church. The excerpts all focus on encounters, seduction and desire.

Hours

Thursday, August 7, 2008: 6:00 pm @ 7:30 pm (Opening)

Friday, August 8, 2008: 10:00 am @ 5:00 pm

A new Inter issue on sound art

The new issue of Inter Art Actuel (98) is devoted to sound art. The texts assembly and the CD create a very nice issue on that matter. You can also read my paper "Au sujet des affects bruyants" in this issue. See http://www.inter-lelieu.org/.
